Leaving and First Day at Sea

After boarding we enjoyed a delicious buffet and unpacked in our state rooms!! Halleigh enjoyed all of the characters greeting us on the ship and we all loved the views leaving Seattle! Later that evening we went to the first of all the shows that happened each night!! It was the All Aboard show and was unfortunately a little too nosy for Halleigh.

The next day was our first day at sea and was it rocky!!! Poor Jake and Taitym had to wear sea sick bands which surprisingly worked!! The views were beautiful and we explored the ship! While on deck, you needed to be careful since winds were so strong!! My mom and I were positive we were going to be hoisted off the ship and into the ocean as we walked across the top deck to the restaurant Palo to take a tour about the design of the ship!!

The ship was designed in art nuveaux and art deco. The tour was fantastic as we learned about the amazing and scrutinizing detail that the Disney design team had throughout the design process. For example, since the CEO of disney did not want the interior of the ship to scream Mickey Mouse like in one of the initial designs, the team would incorporate mickeys face in subtle abstract ways such as the swirled organic trim that encased the glass elevators in the atrium. We also learned about zoning and how the rug outside of each set of elevators had a circle medallion in the middle of each that gave you a clue of what each floor had. For example, all floors with dolphins in the medallion had state rooms and the ones with anchors had entertainment.

After our first full day at sea we had the formal night night with the captain. We all got dressed up and enjoyed the Golden Mickeys show!! The whole party was themed like the Disney version of the oscars and the Grammys and it was so much fun to see everyone dressed up, especially the characters! It was also Halleighs favorite show!! She just lives sparkles!!!
